Animals in education training package
|
 |
Animals in education is designed to assist teachers to understand the implications of the Animal Research Act 1985 (NSW) and the Australian code of practice for the care and use of animals for scientific purposes. The Act and code are described and explained for schools in the document, Animals in schools: Animal welfare guidelines for teachers.
Animals in education was distributed to all schools in Term 3 2004.
The use of the Animals in education CD-ROM will assist schools to comply with the legislation and the guidelines. It is essential that teachers have a copy of the guidelines with them as they work through this CD-ROM. A pdf version of the guidelines is included on this CD-ROM and can be accessed by clicking on the guidelines icon that appears throughout the package at appropriate places.
The Animal Welfare Liaison Officer (AWLO) should familiarise themselves with the contents of the CD-ROM. The CD-ROM should be available for relevant staff to complete in their own time and at their own pace. The school is able to make additional copies of the CD-ROM if required.
The CD-ROM includes an optional assessment exercise. Teachers who successfully complete this exercise are encouraged to apply to the Schools Animal Welfare Officer to receive a certificate acknowledging their achievements.
Additional copies of this CD-ROM can be obtained from: Schools Animal Welfare Officer Private Bag 3 RYDE NSW 2112 Tel: (02) 9886 7426 sally.bannerman@det.nsw.edu.au
