Animal welfare in agriculture teaching materials

This resource has been developed to offer explicit ways for teachers to address animal welfare with their students.

The set of activities has been designed and developed by practising agriculture teachers as examples of animal welfare exercises that can be incorporated into units of work for a particular animal enterprise. Each activity deals with some aspects of an animal enterprise but is not intended to provide complete coverage of the syllabus content relevant to that enterprise.

The sets of activities include teacher notes, student worksheets and suggested answers for the enterprises of:

  • Beef production – Cattle operations
  • Egg production – Poultry housing
  • Wool production – Ewe nutrition and lambing.
