Department of Primary Industries:Animal welfare
The Department of Primary Industries (formerly NSW Agriculture) through its Animal Welfare Unit, administers the legislation governing the use of animals for teaching and research as well as for agricultural purposes.

This site provides information about the relevant legislation along with standard operating procedures, guidelines and policies relating to a variety of animal uses.

Animal Ethics Infolink
Animal Ethics Infolink has been developed by the Animal Research Review Panel and NSW Agriculture’s Animal Welfare Unit. Its aim is to assist researchers, teachers and members of Animal Ethics Committees to access information about the operation of legislation relating to animal welfare.

It is an excellent source of information about Australian and international animal welfare legislation and a good starting point for any enquiry relating to the use of animals in teaching and research.

Department of Environment and Conservation
The Department of Environment and Conservation (DEC) is the main government conservation agency in NSW. It is responsible for national parks and reserves, biodiversity and threatened species, Aboriginal cultural hertiage, historic sites and pest management. The National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) is part of the DEC.

This site provides information about licences for keeping native animals, living with wildlife, pests, fact sheets about a variety of native animals, and conservation and management policies.

ANZCCART (Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching)
ANZCCART was established in 1987 to be a national forum for effective communication between groups with concerns for the care and use of animals in research and teaching. ANZCCART’s key objectives are to promote excellence in animal care, responsible use and informed discussion and debate in these matters.

ANZCCART publishes a quarterly newsletter (ANZCCART News) which can be downloaded from their web site. Other on-line publications include a series of FACT sheets on a range of species including: the mouse, rat, guinea pig, rabbit, cat, dog, sheep, domestic chicken, Australian marsupials, frog and toad.
