Public Schools NSW – creating the future
2012 Education Week launched in a blaze of colour and music
What do you get when you have over 8000 public school students across the state dancing in time to a single piece of music? No, not an earth tremor! The answer is: one very impressive 'simultaneous launch' to Education Week 2012 involving students from over 45 locations across the state.
At Martin Place in Sydney, the fun began with students from Harrington Park Public School entertaining the crowd with an impressive skipping demonstration for Jump Rope for Heart.
Students Anja Nissen (Year 11, Winmalee High School) and Natasha Andrande (Year 12, Newtown High School of the Performing Arts) and the Public School Junior Singers performed Creating Our Future. The student-commissioned theme song was written by Anna Stewart-Yates and Olivia Utharntharm, Year 8 students at Hornsby Girls High School. See the performance on YouTube.
Martin Place then came alive with the sight of 320 dancing school children entertaining passers-by - and 45 other locations doing the same across the state - to celebrate the start of a week of activities in NSW public schools.
NSW Minister for Education, Adrian Piccoli was at Martin Place with Dr Michele Bruniges, Director-General of Education and Communities and Managing Director of TAFE NSW and chatted with participating students. "This was certainly an exciting way to launch Education Week 2012," he said.
"It is amazing to consider that over 8000 students were participating at the same time across the state. It would be hard to find a more a creative way to showcase the talents and achievements of our students, teachers and school communities."
