Winston Heights Public School represented the Western Sydney Region at the Showcase09 videoconference which linked ten schools from each region. Opened by the Minister for Education and Training, Verity Firth, the Showcase celebrated the Education Week focus on the environment.

The Premier and Minister for Education and Training visited Arthur Phillip High School to see students in action with their new laptops.

Western Sydney Region Celebration of Educational Excellence 
The Celebration featured a regional flag parade where 59 schools braved the wet weather to entertain the crowd of 10,000 prior to the Round 11 Panthers vs Roosters NRL game on 23 May.

Rooty Hill Public School Principal for a Day
Verity Firth MP, Minister for Education and Training, attended Rooty Hill Public School where she was took on the role of Principal for a Day guided by Jackie Malecki.

Western Sydney Region "Regional Directors" and "School Education Directors" for a day
Students from across the region joined with the Regional Director and School Education Directors to experience their roles for a day.

Colyton High School won a Virtual Jeopardy competition against teams from Murray, Randwick Girls and Bathurst High Schools utilising virtual technology.  Students love the interactive classes because they don't have to travel but are still able to communicate with students across the state. Questions ranged from history, spelling skills, geography to all things Australian. The year 8 students now move on to the finals.

James Ruse Agricultural High School
NASA astronaut Dr Gregory Chamitoff spoke to the whole school about what his job as an astronaut entailed, including the maintenance of the International Space Station (ISS), various scientific research projects, and his experiences in space with the aid of a very entertaining video documenting his time on the ISS.

 
Education Week in Western Sydney Region

Katoomba North Public School celebrated Education week with an open day on Wednesday 27th May. After a community breakfast, information session and assembly, parents participated in 'open classrooms' where children proudly showed their work to their parents. The  day concluded with a picnic lunch.

Mt Druitt/Minchinbury Public Education Concert at the Rooty Hill RSL featured performances from Primary and High Schools on Friday 29 May.

The Education Week Assembly was hosted by students from the Supported Classes and featured the choir and Dejembe drumming.

Blaxland East Public School
With each stage given a specific Design and Make task, there was plenty of "science flair" during the annual Science Exhibition held in Education Week. Many imaginative and inventive displays focussed on topics ranging from water, transport, planets, earth, climate to complex environments and electricity.
