Good News About Education Week and Reconciliation Week

The North Shore Times' Katrina Adamski in her Education Week front page feature wrote:

"Education Minister Verity Firth received a rock star welcome when she returned to her old school, North Sydney Girls High.....when Ms Firth walked into the reception area she was greeted by principal Greg Henshaw, who asked if she would be on the wall of fame, alongside another old girl, Nicole Kidman.

She fondly recalled her time at the school from 1986 to 1991 and the great education she received from the dedicated staff.'

The cover story noted The Minister's time at Artarmon Public School and senior education at North Sydney Girls High.

Ms Firth said of the school "It has always been a really great school for girls.....I made some of my best friends here (at North Sydney Girls High), who I'm still in contact with.....I'm nostalgic about the friendships I made and the great teachers."

The Daily Telegraph's Marilyn Parker stated "The quality of education at any school rests with the talents of its teachers - and those at Rouse Hill have them in abundance..." in her Education Week article.

Wellington Times' Teagan McManus featured local talent and Wellington High School graduate Bruce Carr has been named one of the western NSW's Aboriginal high achievers who will star in a tribute website for Reconciliation Week.

For Education Week and Reconciliation Week 2009, NBN's Elspeth Taylor spotlights indigenous education successes and future directions. 

Director-General for a Day Thomas Reddell High's Stephen Meecham featured in Oliver Murray's Education Week story in Macarthur Chronicle. Murray wrote, "Director-General for the Day gives students the chance to learn more about the challenges of working in the Education Department. More than 100 students applied to be Director-General for the Day."

Director-General, Michael Coutts-Trotter posted an inspiring message on the role of public education in National Reconciliation Week.
