ARTEXPRESS

ARTEXPRESS

ARTEXPRESS is a contemporary series of exhibitions displaying artworks that are vibrant and powerful statements reflecting the beliefs and the world of NSW Higher School Certificate Visual Arts students over an 11 month period.

In 2008, 9665 students submitted artworks as part of their 2008 Higher School Certificate Visual Arts Examination.

There were 535 student works nominated for ARTEXPRESS in 2008 and 310 of these were selected for inclusion in one of the ten ARTEXPRESS exhibitions.

Humanity Sleeps, In The Car, On the Couch, In the Bed

The ARTEXPRESS exhibition consists of the complete range of media submitted for the Higher School Certificate in Visual Arts and includes a comprehensive film screening program.

In 2008, four exhibitions are scheduled for metropolitan Sydney and exhibitions at Wollongong, Newcastle, Bathurst, Tweed River, Grafton and Port Macquarie will make up the ARTEXPRESS 2008 Tour.

Metropolitan exhibitions include: David Jones Sydney department stores, the Art Gallery of NSW, Hazelhurst Regional Gallery & Arts Centre at Gymea and the Sydney Olympic Park. The College of Fine Arts will be holding an online exhibition.

The ARTEXPRESS Tour will visit Newcastle, followed by Wollongong, Bathurst, Tweed Heads (Tweed River Art Gallery at Murwillumbah), Grafton and then finish in November at the Glasshouse Regional Gallery in Port Macquarie.

Recess of the Luncheon

The Bodies of Work selected for ARTEXPRESS are drawn from a wide range of schools throughout NSW and demonstrate the exceptional standards achieved by Visual Arts students in NSW schools.

Once again this year's exhibition reflects many interesting themes ranging from issues of political, social, cultural and spiritual significance through to aspects of personal identity and home environment. The exhibition at Wollongong focuses on Time Based works in conjunction with the launching of an online teacher’s resource produced by the College of Fine Arts, UNSW. Tweed River Gallery exhibition focuses on portraiture, Grafton explores notions of the environment, natural/urban personal/public and Port Macquarie presents abstraction across the expressive forms.

In the creation of these works, the students have demonstrated their understanding and mastery of a wide range of media, conventions and techniques.
