National Literacy and Numeracy Week in NSW is part of a nation-wide effort to celebrate and build upon programs to increase literacy and numeracy in the Australian community. NLNW is held 29 August - 4 September 2005.
NLNW in NSW is coordinated by the NSW Department of Education and Training, the Catholic Education Commission and the Association of Independent Schools.
The Minister, the Hon. Carmel Tebbutt MLC, will be announcing results of the NLNW awards for 'Excellence' and 'Highly Commended' on Monday 29 August in a ceremony to be conducted at Taronga Zoo.
NLNW is an Australian Government initiative run in collaboration with all State and Territory Governments, which aims to:
- Showcase the hard work school communities are undertaking in improving literacy and numeracy skills
- Recognise the outstanding results that have been achieved
- Raise community awareness of the importance of all Australian students developing effective literacy and numeracy skills
- Build on national initiatives to improve literacy and numeracy standard among young Australians.
