School Sport Foundation

The aim of the School Sport Foundation is to encourage, promote and support sport and healthy lifestyle initiatives for young people which will then assist to create a healthy future for these young people.

The Minister for Education and Training, launched the School Sport Foundation in 1997 as a joint initiative of the Department of Education and Training in association with the NSW Teachers Federation and the Federation of Parents and Citizens Association of NSW. The Foundation has bi-partisan support.

Programs

The programs conducted under the auspices of the Foundation range from elite competition in the representative programs, through to grassroots participation in school based programs including programs for students with disabilities.

The School Sport Foundation incorporates five core program areas:

  • State and Area level representative CHS & PSSA sporting programs
  • Active Youth Program (for years 7 - 10 students)
  • School Swimming Scheme (learn to swim program for primary students)
  • Access Sports - for students with disabilities
  • Ambassadors Program

Over $1.7 million has been distributed to the core programs since 1997.

In addition to these core program areas, the School Sport Foundation Grants Fund provides equitable support to schools at the local level.

The Foundation is fortunate to have high profile sports people, Ann Sargeant (former Australian netball captain), Mark Ella (former Australian Rugby representative) and Wayne Pearce (former Australian Rugby League representative) as it's patrons.

The School Sport Foundation and its corporate Principal Partners, Integral Energy, Sydney Markets is supporting the next generation of sporting champions as well as developing 'a healthy future' for all students.

All of these companies have a strong community focus and are committed to promoting physical activity and improving the health levels of young people.
