The Premier's Sporting Challenge includes a range of initiatives with one common purpose - to have more students, more active, more often!

 
Premier's Sporting Challenge

Each year students across NSW have the opportunity to enter state-wide public speaking and debating competitions. The Performing Arts Unit, which organises the competitions for NSW primary and secondary school students, also conducts training and development courses for staff and students.

 
Premier's Debating Challenge

The NSW Student Representative Council (NSW SRC) invites secondary schools to showcase their successful student-led environment projects. Create a five minute DVD or video to showcase your school environment project.

 
Enviro Inspiro!

The Critics' Choice runs from 30 May – 26 September 2008.
The Critics' Choice invites young people to critique twelve anti-smoking advertisements from around the world and nominate the one that is most effective in making them not want to smoke.

 
The Critics' Choice

A challenging competition for environmentally aware Year 11 students. Each government high school may enter one team of four Year 11 students in this statewide competition. Schools compete in regional events in order to win a place in the state finals held in the Kuringai Chase National Park.

Each year the NSW Department of Education and Training conducts the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition for Years 3 and 4 Years 5 and 6 students attending NSW government schools.

Premier's Spelling Bee 2008 is an initiative of the Premier and encourages young people to engage in spelling in a fun and educational way.

Earth is the theme for this year's competition. Students are encouraged to use words, drawings, music, video or still photography to create a web site to share their thoughts, feelings and ideas on this theme with other students around New South Wales. Last year's Winners may be viewed on the competition's web site. This competition is open to students in NSW DET schools only.

Side by Side, the newspaper for NSW public schools, is running a student newspaper competition and there are some great prizes up for grabs. All NSW public schools are encouraged to get their competition entries in for the best student newspaper or class newsletter before November 2.

Each year a number of state-wide competitions in the performing and creative arts give students across NSW the opportunity to compete against other. Students who form their own bands and write original material have the chance, through the YouthRock competition, to gain financial and logistic support from the music industry.
