Creation Story This is the creation story of the Ngiyaampaa country, as well as the land belonging to Eaglehawk and Crow. A long, long time ago, in the beginning, when there were no people, no trees, and no plants whatsoever on this land, Guthi-guthi, the spirit of He wanted to create a special land for people, animals and birds to live in. So Guthi-guthi came down to the earth and started to create this land for the people. He first set the borders in place and the sacred sites, which are the birthing places of the Dreamings, where all the Aboriginal Dreamings come from. Guthi-guthi then put one foot on Gunderbooka Mountain and another one at Mount Grenfell, and he looked out over the land and he could see that the land was bare. There was no water in sight, there was nothing growing. Guthi-guthi knew that Weowie, the water serpent, was trapped in a mountain called Mount Minara. So Guthi-guthi called out to him, but because Weowie was trapped right in the middle of the mountain, he couldn't hear him. Guthi-guthi went back up into the sky and he called out once more. Once again Weowie didn't respond so Guthi-guthi came down with a roar like thunder and banged on the mountain and the mountain split open. Weowie the water serpent came out and where the water serpent travelled he made waterholes and streams and depressions in the land. Once all that was finished, Weowie went back into the mountain to live and that's where Weowie lives now, in Mount Minara. After that, Guthi-guthi wanted another lot of water to come down from the north, throughout the country. He called on old Pundu, the Cod, to drag and create the river known as the Darling River today. So Cod came out with Mudlark, his little mate, and they set off from the north and they created the big river. This river flows down from the north and flows right through the country into the sea. This is how this country was created. The first two tribes put in our country were Eaglehawk and Crow. From these two tribes came many tribal people, and many other tribes. Our Response: The Creation Story is a story about how Austraila was created. It is an interesting story, giving another perspective of how the world and geographical features came to be. I find this an important story to know as we live in Australia and should have some knowledge of how our surroundings came along. The story depicts what could have been the first team just like our web team. Australia was not made alone by Guthi-guthi, but he called on Pundu, Mudlark and Weowie, the water serpent. This can only prove that we can't be individuals all the time, we should have a person we can call upon when a project is too big to handle on our own. Water is portrayed in this story as very important. Guthi-guthi created a lot of things that he wanted on the land, wildlife, plants and landmarks, but nothing grew because there wasn't water, the land would be bare and there wouldn't be life on the land. So basicaly it's telling us we need water to survive and be happy. This myth would be important to the Aboriginal people because it tells of how they came to live on this land also of the land's origin. This is also an important story for us to know as it explains what we can achieve if we try.
