Themes

Having a consistent theme and colour scheme throughout the site is very important. Themes make the site look more polished and appear as a single site rather than a collection of pages bundled together.

Make sure there is a contrast between the background and the text colour to make it easier for the person reading the page.

Remember that, although a computer may be able to display millions of colours on the screen, there are only 216 web-safe colours that are common to all computers and web browsers.

The common theme approach should also apply to all of the graphics used throughout the site.

Make sure that the graphics used on the web site are relevant to the topic and as small as possible, usually less than 25K for large images.
