HSC FAQs - Where to go for help?

Following the conduct of the 2001 HSC various questions about the operation of, and support for, the HSC have been sent to the Professional Support and Curriculum Directorate. These questions and responses to them are provide below.

In some case, questions have been forwarded to the Office of the Board of Studies for their consideration and the answers will be posted on the Board's website.

• Where do I get help from DET? Who do I ring or email for advice on HSC matters?
• Will any curriculum officers be available to attend district or local meetings to assist principals or teachers?
• Will the CEOs (School Improvement) be trained to support secondary schools in any aspect of school based assessment in a standards framework?

The DET website and the HSCOnline Website provide a range of resources developed to assist teachers working with the new HSC. KLA managers and curriculum officers are available to respond to queries and provide advice.

KLA managers and curriculum officers are able to attend district meetings of principals and/or teachers. Requests for attendance at such meetings can be made direct to the managers or through District Office T&D/Curriculum Co-ordinators. (In the case of Science, district 7-12 consultants are able to assist.)

CEOs: School Improvement (CEOs, SI) are trained to support schools in the school self evaluation process. As part of the combined Student Assessment and School Accountability directorate CEOs, SI will be trained in the priorities and projects relating to student assessment. CEOs, SI will continue to be available to support schools in all aspects of the school self evaluation process. Any requests made of CEOs, SI that they can not personally address will be directed to other sections of the directorate for appropriate action. Principals should contact their local CEO, SI for individual assistance.
