9 March

Handbook for Principals received in schools.

26-30 March

Independent schools confirm school and student details in PAR online registration.

4 May

Schools should receive test materials and Test Administration Handbooks.

7 May

PAR online registration live again for all schools to amend student details -

  • indicate exemptions and withdrawals
  • add and delete students.

15-18 May

Test week - all student participation and special provisions completed  in PAR online registration.

18-22 May

Packing and dispatch of completed test materials to the Processing Centre.

21-25 May

Unused test materials must remain secure.


NAPLAN 2012 writing task

In the 2012 NAPLAN writing test, students will write a persuasive text. The same task will be used  for students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.  

The NAPLAN writing tests will be marked by assessors who have received intensive training in the application of ten writing criteria for the persuasive genre.

Descriptions of the writing criteria

Persuasive genre

Audience

The writer s capacity to orient, engage and persuade the reader

Text structure

The organisation of the structural components of a persuasive text (introduction, body and conclusion) into an appropriate and effective text structure

Ideas

The creation, selection and crafting of ideas for a persuasive argument

Persuasive devices

The use of a range of persuasive devices to enhance the writer s position and persuade the reader

Vocabulary

The range and precision of language choices

Cohesion

The control of multiple threads and relationships over the whole text, achieved through the use of referring words, substitutions, word associations and text connectives

Paragraphing

The segmenting of text into paragraphs that assists the reader to follow the line of argument

Sentence structure

The production of grammatically correct, structurally sound and meaningful sentences

Punctuation

The use of correct and appropriate punctuation to aid the reading of the text

Spelling

The accuracy of spelling and the difficulty of the words used

NAPLAN 2012 Independent Schools Registration

Information about the 2012 NAPLAN was emailed to schools in November 2011.

NAPLAN 2011 Reports
