Selection procedures
Assessment procedures
In determining academic merit the selection committee will consider the information provided by parents. The types of information required are detailed in Criteria for entry
If it is considered necessary by the selection committee, students may be required to take a test. In this case, the school will provide you with reasonable notice of the time, date and place of the test. Where testing is conducted by the school, students found to be cheating risk disqualification from the test.
Before submitting your application, you should go to the individual school's website or contact the school to find out the assessment requirements and enrolment procedures for each selective high school for which you intend to apply.
Vacancies
The number of vacancies at selective high schools in Years 8 to 12 will generally depend on the number of students who leave in the previous year. In some schools there may be no vacancies in some academic Years. Other schools may establish extra places in some academic Years.
You should contact the individual school to determine in which academic Years places are available.
Selection committees
For each selective high school, a selection committee will decide on the students to be offered places in each academic Year and will also establish a reserve list in priority order. The selection committee comprises at least three people including the school education director as chairperson, the selective high school principal a district guidance officer or school counsellor and a parent representative.
The selection committee may ask for further information or arrange for additional procedures to allow differentiation between students.
Notification of decision
You will be notified in writing about the outcome of your application. Some later offers may be made by telephone.
Students may be:
(a) offered a place
(b) put on the reserve list
(c) advised that they did not qualify for placement.
This information will be provided by each school for which an application was made.
