National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN)

NAPLAN 2010 Dates

In 2010 the dates for the National Assessment Program will be Tuesday May 11 - Thursday May 13.

NAPLAN 2009

In 2008 The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy was introduced for all students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9.

The purpose of the National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is to assess the literacy and numeracy learning of students in all Australian schools.

The results of these tests will provide useful information for teachers and parents. In particular, they will help inform teachers in their ongoing efforts to address the literacy and numeracy needs of their students.

In NSW the NAPLAN tests replaced the Basic Skills Tests (BST), English Language and Literacy Assessment (ELLA) and Secondary Numeracy Assessment Program (SNAP).

In 2009 the dates for the National Assessment Program will be Tuesday May 12 - Thursday May 14.

Writing Task 2009

The writing task for the 2009 NAPLAN Writing test will be a narrative. All students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete the same task.

All states and territories in Australia have been advised of the implementation of an additional procedure to be implemented in the marking of student responses to the Writing assessment to be held on May 12.

In 2009 data on adherence or non-adherence to the Writing task prompt will be collected. Please ensure when preparing students for the assessment they are made aware that they need to write a story related to the 2009 narrative prompt. This information is also included in the directions read to students at the start of the writing test.

Writing Marking

If you are interested in applying to mark the NAPLAN 2009 Writing Task in Sydney or Canberra, information is available on the ACER website.
