School Zones
Zoning determines which opportunity class(es) an applicant may apply for. Students attending their local government school will be zoned according to the school they currently attend.
Out-of-area government school students may apply to be zoned according to their residential suburb.
All government primary schools have been zoned to at least one school with opportunity classes if there is one within reasonable distance. Students attending government schools will be notified by their current school of the school(s) with opportunity classes relevant to their application. A list of primary schools and the school(s) with an opportunity class to which they have been zoned is available (Ms excel 456kb).
Students enrolled in non-government schools, home-schooled students or those applying from interstate and overseas are zoned according to their residential suburb.
A list of suburbs and the school with an opportunity class to which they have been zoned is available (Ms excel 380kb).
Sometimes in non-metropolitan areas, schools cannot be zoned because of the distances involved. Students in these 'non-zoned' schools are able to apply for up to three schools anywhere in the state on the assumption that they will be changing their address.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who live within reasonable travelling distance of Alexandria Park Community School or Taree Public School are encouraged to apply for one of the designated places regardless of zoning.
