How to lodge the application
Application for students from government primary schools
Step 1: Read the application information carefully.

Step 2: Complete an application
1. All applicants with Internet access are expected to apply online. Please note: the email address you supply to make an online application must belong to a parent or caregiver. Emails belonging to students will be be disabled.
Applications submitted online will be made available to Government school principals to complete the school's section. You will receive by email a printable version of your application for your reference.

2. Parents without Internet access must apply using the commercially printed application form. Application information and forms are available for parents of government primary school students from their current primary school.
Step 3: Submit the application through the school
1. If submitted online: The principal will complete processing of your application online.
OR
2. If submitted on paper: Make a photocopy of your completed paper application form for your reference and hand the application to the primary school principal by 18 November 2011.
Step 4: Expect to receive advice regarding the test centre your child needs to attend. Please be sure to check your emails around this time for this important information. If by 2 March 2012 you have not received advice of the test centre the student has been allocated to, you should telephone the Unit or contact your child's government primary school. Test centre allocations will also be published on this web site.
Step 5: Ensure that your child attends the Selective High School Placement Test on the morning of Thursday 15 March 2012.
Step 6: Expect to receive the outcome of your application by mail or email from the Unit in July 2012.
Application for students from non-government primary school

1. All applicants with Internet access and the email address of a parent or caregiver are expected to apply online.
You will receive by email a printable version of your application for your reference.

2. Parents without Internet access must apply using the commercially printed application form.
Parents of non-government primary students may obtain an application package from any selective high school, NSW Department of Education and Communities state offices at Bridge Street, Bankstown or Blacktown and school education group offices across NSW. You should obtain an application package from one of these places.
Step 3: Submit the application through the school
1. If submitted online: Print the application sent to you by email and hand it to your child's school for further processing.
2. If submitted on paper: Make a photocopy of your completed paper application form for your reference and hand the application to the primary school principal by 18 November 2011.
A small number of non-government schools may be unwilling or unable to process the application forms. Parents of students from such schools must seek a formal exemption after they have approached the schools. Formal exemption form
Step 4: Expect to receive advice regarding the test centre your child needs to attend. Please be sure to check your emails around this time for this important information. If by 2 March 2012 you have not received advice of the test centre the student has been allocated to, you should telephone the Unit. The centre allocations for all primary schools will also be published on this web site.

Step 6: Expect to receive the outcome of your application in July 2012.
Interstate and overseas applicants
Note: Students must be Australian citizens, New Zealand citizens living permanently in Australia or permanent residents to be enrolled.

Step 2: Complete an application (open from 24 October to 21 November 2011)
1. Interstate and overseas applicants are expected to apply online.
You will receive by email a printable version of your application for your reference.

Step 3a:
If you intend to bring the student back to NSW to sit the test you must nominate a preferred suburb or town as a testing venue. The application must be submitted online by 21 November 2011.
Expect to receive advice regarding the test centre your child needs to attend. Please be sure to check your emails around this time for this important information. If by 2 March 2012 you have not received advice of the test centre the student has been allocated to, you should telephone the Unit. Ensure that your child attends the Selective High School Placement Test on the morning of Thursday 15 March 2012.
Step3b:
If you do not intend to bring the student back to NSW to sit the test submit a Report of academic merit for interstate and overseas students. This report can be submitted after the original application. Additional time is allowed for psychological testing but the report should be received by 15 March 2012.
Step 4: Expect to receive the outcome of your application in July 2012.
