Linkages Program promotes continuity of literacy and numeracy development in all key learning areas in Stages 3 and 4. It addresses issues raised in Australian research that indicate that students' learning plateaus or declines as early as Year 5 and that students' disengagement from learning can continue into secondary schooling.

 

The small gap in the literacy performance of boys and girls needs to be understood against a background which takes into consideration the way in which various factors intersect with gender to affect literacy results.


 

It is a training and development course in early reading and writing. It is designed for teachers of Years 1 and 2, particularly teachers in isolated schools who find it difficult to access other training and development opportunities.

online provides professional development for school literacy support teams to plan a whole school approach to literacy with the support of the district literacy team. It requires school teams to access the web site regularly, participate in online discussions, implement action plans within their school, attend a compulsory workshop by all team members and complete a school learning portfolio.
