Furnishing
The furnishing course has general aims which are applicable to both the 120 hour and the 240 hour course and there are additional aims applicable to the 240 hour course.
The general aims are to:
- assist students to develop knowledge, skills and attitudes which are relevant to, and recognised within, a wide range of employment, training and further education settings
- provide opportunities for students to acquire basic knowledge, skills and practice to enable confident and competent participation in a furnishing industry environment
- develop knowledge of the structural, technological and social aspects involved in a furnishing industry environment
- develop a range of skills which will assist students to communicate effectively using a range of spoken, written, graphic and other non-verbal means of expression
- develop a commitment to quality in all aspects of work organisation
- develop an awareness and appreciation of the application of design principles to the design and construction of furnishing and/or furniture
- develop knowledge of and skills in the use of tools, equipment and materials
- develop an awareness of the safety procedures and practices to be observed when working with tools, materials and machinery
- provide opportunities for students to establish a foundation for further vocational education and training.
In addition, the 240 hour course aims to:
- develop confidence and competence in applying safety procedures and practices when working with tools, materials and machinery
- develop confidence and competence in managing and using tools, equipment and materials in the manufacture of furnishing products
- provide opportunities for students to design, measure and manufacture quality furnishing
- provide opportunities for students to explore knowledge, skills and practice in specific areas of the furnishing industry
- develop the self-discipline needed to efficiently complete an assigned or selected task, alone or with others
- develop potential, both creatively and vocationally.
