Anti-Racism Contact Officer (ARCO) Training

The role of the ARCO is to assist any member of the school community who wishes to bring a complaint of racism. The ARCO may assist in putting the complaint into writing and explaining to the complainant their rights and responsibilities in relation to the procedures contained in the Responding to Suggestions, Complaints and Allegations policy. Training is offered to newly-appointed ARCOs and executive officers annually at a regional level.


Challenging racism

The Challenging Racism materials provide activities to support the professional learning of school communities in regard to understanding racism, training for ARCOs and the planning and implementation of school-based anti-racism education projects.

Cooling Conflicts

Cooling Conflicts is a conflict management program involving educational drama techniques and peer teaching. The program assists students to examine how conflict escalates and teaches them how to intervene to manage conflict.  Regions may offer training in the Cooling Conflicts program for high schools and their feeder primary schools intending to implement the program.

Identity, Culture and Conflict is a resource kit for the secondary school classroom. The kit contains eight video segments and accompanying presenter's guide designed to stimulate productive discussion relating to issues of racism, including the nature of racism in educational settings, Australia's cultural and linguistic diversity, and Reconciliation. A copy is available in every high school and central school.

Prejudice. No Way! is a practical classroom teaching resource of anti-prejudice activities for students in Years K-3 (Early Stage 1 – Stage 2). It aims to assist students to develop the values, skills and knowledge to enable them to respect and value themselves and others.

The Racism. No way! website is an innovative anti-racism education project which targets all members of Australian school communities. It includes a comprehensive set of resources to assist schools, teachers and students to understand and counter racism in schools.

Roads to Refuge
 
Roads to Refuge

Roads to Refuge is a teaching and learning resource for students in Years 5-10. The seven sessions deal with issues relating to the refugee journey and experience of resettlement through video footage, case studies and classroom activities. A copy is available in every school.
