Building community capacity involves developing skills and knowledge among parents and community members in order to increase their capacity to support their children's learning.
Parents from culturally and linguistically diverse communities and in particular those who have recently arrived in Australia or who have limited English language skills may need additional assistance to be able to understand the NSW school system and the part that parents can play.
Schools are encouraged to develop local initiatives which aim to foster greater understanding of the school system by parents and community members from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and to support their active participation in school life.
