In what ways can the professional learning package be used?

Teachers may wish to use the Drug education in culturally diverse classrooms professional learning package to:

  • consider the challenges of providing drug education in culturally diverse classrooms
  • read more about research and drug education
  • use quizzes and surveys to develop a greater understanding of the drug education needs of students from culturally diverse backgrounds
  • view video clips and consider the ideas and responses of students, parents or teachers
  • construct class lessons or units of work
  • print resources, such as lesson templates and tailored tobacco and alcohol learning activities
  • link to suitable Internet sites providing current drug information or information about culturally specific practices
  • consider ideas for involving parents from diverse cultural backgrounds in drug education
  • download translated information about drug education, meeting invitations and homework activities for parents

School teams can use the CD-ROM package to:

  • consider the school's drug education program within the framework of the PDHPE Key Learning Area and the Student Welfare policy
  • find out how current learning theory can be used in drug education programs and lessons
  • review how drug education is implemented in the school and how this approach might be enhanced
  • develop school based professional learning programs in drug education for teachers
