Gifted and Talented Education

Gifted and talented students can be found in all communities regardless of their cultural or economic backgrounds. It is critical for gifted and talented students to be given appropriate opportunity, stimulation and the experiences to develop their potential and satisfy their learning needs.

Gifted students are those whose potential is distinctly above average in one or more of the following domains of human ability: intellectual, creative, social and physical.

Talented students are those whose skills are distinctly above average in one or more areas of human performance.

Gifted and talented children are encouraged to explore their particular talents through enriched curriculum options, including special camps and after-school-hours programs. Students with exceptional abilities can also accelerate their progression in single subjects or whole grades.

Exceptional students may also be allowed to start school before the normal enrolment age. The decision is made by the principal in consultation with the parents/caregivers, school counsellor or psychologist.
