The young people in NSW public schools and TAFE are important to the future of Australia and National Youth Week 2008 is a terrific way to celebrate their achievements and listen to their concerns.

National Youth Week is a joint Australian Government, State, Territory and Local Government Initiative. Youth Week has been held in NSW since 1989 and became a national event in 2000.

Youth Week 2008 was launched on 2 April at the Sydney Royal Easter Show by the Hon Linda Burney MP, Minister for Youth.

National Youth Week aims to:

  • provide an opportunity for young people aged 12 to 25 to express their ideas and views, raise issues of concern, act on issues which affect their lives and create and enjoy entertainment;
  • provide an opportunity for the wider community to listen to young people, and to acknowledge and celebrate the positive contributions made by their efforts and achievements; and
  • promote a community focus on issues of concern to young people.

The NSW Government has a commitment to youth participation in government programs and services that impact on their lives.
