Privacy Awareness Week (PAW) is a great opportunity to remind you about some of the privacy dangers of the Internet. Probably you use the Internet for online chats, social networking, research and generally communicating but, before you upload or enter data online, it is wise to remember: "Once it's out there, it's everywhere".
You might also like to ask yourself the questions: "What I have just posted -- do I want everyone to have access to it? Should I have provided that much detail?" Remember large amounts of personal information can be collected by sites you visit online -- often without you even knowing.
This year the Asia Pacific Privacy Authorities (APPA) have made raising the privacy awareness of young people about the Internet, its theme for Privacy Awareness Week. PAW is an annual event, which focuses on a privacy topic and is aimed at raising people's awareness of privacy issues.
On Wednesday the 6th of May, the Federal Privacy Commissioner will launch a special video about young people and the Internet. During Privacy Awareness Week, this video and some accompanying useful materials will all be available via the website of Privacy New South Wales, so check it out: www.lawlink.nsw.gov.au/privacynsw.
