You will be aware of recent media on the use of mobile phones to send provocative images. This is an issue of concern particularly for parents of adolescents.

The downloadable fact sheet, SAFE SEXTING: No such thing (pdf 480kb), aims to raise awareness of this growing trend for young people to send provocative images of themselves to their friends via mobile phone - a practice termed ‘sexting’.

The May issue of Click magazine also contains a podcast discussing sexting and suggesting strategies for parents.  Go to Click Podcast.

Schools will be reinforcing this message at student assemblies and through relevant curriculum areas such as Personal Development, Health and Physical Education.

Parents are encouraged  to discuss the dangers of ‘sexting’ with their child, reinforcing the key message: don’t post images of yourself and don’t distribute any sent to you.
