The NSW Minister for Education and Training Verity Firth said parents could now access a new website to help them understand reports about their child and their school's performance in national literacy and numeracy tests.
"This week, parents of school students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will receive the reports which will be either mailed or sent home with students. The reports will show the results from the second year of national tests known as NAPLAN that students sat in May.
"More than 340,000 NSW students sat the tests and achieved outstanding results and these reports are a great chance for parents to see how their child is progressing," Ms Firth said.
"The reports will show the student's own score, how they compared with the national average for their year level as well as how their school performed."
Ms Firth said the reports were a wide-ranging analysis of a child's performance in spelling, grammar, writing, reading, and numeracy.
"NSW students are performing well above the national average and I was particularly pleased to see the outstanding spelling results of our students this year, with NSW ranked number one in Years 3, 5, and 7.
"These results are a tribute to the hard work and dedication of staff and students in more than 3000 primary, secondary and central schools across the State," Ms Firth said.
"I urge all mums and dads to read their child's report and access the website and if you would like to know more about how your child is performing, make an appointment to meet with your child's teacher."
