In search of the perfect lunchbox
In search of the perfect lunchbox

Do you stare at the fridge in the morning wondering what to make for lunches? Are you sick of lunches coming home uneaten? Let us help.

Each month we will approach an expert to help us in our quest to find the perfect lunch box. We will give you new recipes and ideas from a range of experts for when a vegemite sandwich just won't do. This month, head chef Manu Feildel from Bilson's restaurant at the Radisson, Sydney, shares some fantastic recipes that are sure to get your children excited about opening their lunch box again.

Father of two Manu has chosen healthy meals that are easy to prepare and some can be prepared and frozen beforehand so they are ideal for busy parents. There is also no sandwich in sight, so if you have a child that doesn't eat sandwiches, this lunch may be the answer for you.

About this month's chef: Manu Feildel

You may already know Manu as one of the most popular and entertaining chefs on Network Ten's Ready, Steady, Cook. Manu was probably destined to become a great chef, following in the footsteps of his father, grandfather and even great-grandfather. Yet as a child, Manu saw his future on the stage rather than in the kitchen and at just 13 years he joined an amateur circus school.
By 15 however, he had enough with clowning around and started as an apprentice in his father's restaurant.

Since then Manu has worked his way up through many famous London restaurants before becoming the head chef at Bilson's. Manu has won the prestigious three chefs hats award for the second year running.

Between entertaining, fine dining and his own young family, Manu certainly has the right ingredients to help in our search for the perfect lunch box.

This is a great lunch for kids. My grand daughters love hummus with vegetable sticks and they love Manu. They also help by peeling and slicing the vegetables. (Yes I buy my hummus from the supermarket).
The girls also love a very simple snack of sliced Granny Smithes and cheese that my Dad (their great-grandfather)used to make. Really simple and really healthy.

Awesome. Some lovely ideas here :-) A good idea is to print them out and stick them on the fridge door so come Monday morning (Sunday nght if we're lucky) bread and vegemite isn't the first thing you reach for due to lack of inspiration. Thanks
