Two NSW public schools have turned complex scientific concepts into award-winning short videos for the University of Sydney’s Sleek Geeks Science Eureka Schools Prize.

Conservatorium High School students Nicole M, Ada J, Madeleine C and Sarah Y won second place and $3,000 in the secondary schools category for their entry, Neurotic – A film about brain messages.

Gosford High School‘s video on motion, Fractious Friction, earned Bayden A, Tobias J, Tom R, Daniel B and Kaleah B third prize and $2,000.

The annual competition is part of the Australian Museum Eureka Prizes and challenges students across Australia to communicate a scientific concept in a way that is accessible and entertaining.

This year’s entries featured film techniques such as stop-frame animation and claymation to make the videos more engaging.
