  • Twenty eighth Governor of New South Wales.

  • Born in England.

  • Naval captain during World War 1.

  • Governor of Newfoundland 1932-1935.

  • Appointed governor of New South Wales in 1935 but became ill on his way to Sydney.

  • Sworn in in 1936.

  • Due to his recurring illness, his wife undertook many official duties on his behalf.

  • Died suddenly of a cerebral haemorrhage.

  • His body was shipped to England for burial.
