  • Thirty fourth Governor of New South Wales.

  • Born in Australia in 1933.

  • Senior naval officer as were the first four governors of the colony of New South Wales.

  • Served in Korea, Cyprus and Iceland as a naval officer.

  • Promoted to Governor after retiring from his position as Flag Officer Naval Support Command in 1988.

  • Saw the role as the Governor of New South Wales to be "ceremonial, constitutional and community."

  • Descended from Lieutenant George Johnston, Royal Marines of the First Fleet, and the convict Esther Abrahams.

  • Was involved in many community groups including the Captain Arthur Phillip Bicentenary Committee, the Variety Club of Australia, the Royal Lifesaving Society and the Muscular Dystrophy Association and was named Father of the Year in 1988.

  • Died in 1990
