- Thirty fifth Governor
of New South Wales.
- Born in Australia
in 1934.
- Senior naval officer
as were the first four governors of the colony of New South Wales.
- Promoted to Governor
after his retirement from the navy as Department Chief Naval Staff 1989.
- Followed his good
friend Rear Admiral Sir David Martin AO into the office of governor.
- Saw the role as
the Governor of New South Wales as bringing the the office of Governor
closer to a somethimes questioning community
- Helped set up the
tri-service Australian Defence Force Academy.
- Guided Darwin out
of the aftermath of the cylone in 1974 and led the diaster relief effort
of flood prone Nygun in 1990.
