PREMIER
BOB CARR
- born in 1947
- educated at Matraville
High School and the University of New South Wales
- former journalist
he held portfolios in the Wran and Unsworth Governments: Minister for
Planning and Environment from 1984 to 1988 and Minister for Heritage
from 1986 to 1988.
- Leader of the Opposition
from 1988 until his election as Premier in March 1995.
- again elected
Premier in March 1999.
- lives with his
wife Helena in his electorate of Maroubra.
- 1998, awarded
the Fred M Packard International Parks Merit Award by the World Conservation
Union, in recognition of the expansion of national parks he achieved
as a Minister and Premier
- 1999, awarded the
prestigious Fullbright Distinguished Fellow Award Scholarship. Mr Carr
turned his grant into five one-off $10,000 scholarship to teachers of
Modern History in NSW schools.
The Premier's American History Scholarship allow five teachers
to visit the USA to study any aspect of American history relevant to
the teaching of modern history in NSW schools.
