BECOMING AN AUTHORISED PERFORMER
|
 |
The role of performers in the school environment cannot be underestimated or taken lightly. Accordingly, an authorisation process has been introduced to ensure that all performances presented in NSW public schools meet the highest standards of artistic and educational integrity. Performers who are interested in touring schools should familiarise themselves with this process. The steps in the process are as follows:
- Download and familiarise yourself with the Authorised Performances For Schools Information Booklet. This book will answer many of your initial questions and assist you in developing your performance.
- Familiarise yourself with other performances that are already offered in you area of expertise or interest. This will give you an idea of the range of performances that are already available to schools in what is an increasingly competitive market. To view information about performances that are currently authorised for presentation in schools, you may visit our online Authorised Performances For Schools Database.
- Develop you performance for preview. The Information Booklet contains a number of ideas and references that will help you in this development phase. The Performances For Schools Co-ordinator will also be able to provide further advice to you.
- When you feel you performance is ready for an audience, you must lodge your Application For Authorisation and pay your application fee. You may download the Application For Authorisation from this site. Once your application has been lodged, the Performances For Schools Co-ordinator will arrange a preview performance and discussing arrangements in consultation with the performer. It is essential ALL information requested on the application form is complete. Failure to do this will result in the Application being returned.
- The Preview Performance is an integral part of the authorisation process. This free performance is given in front of a live audience of students that you have identified as your target audience. This performance is viewed by a panel which may consist of teachers, parents or other experts in your field of interest.
- Once your performance has been recommended to receive authorisation for presentation in NSW government schools, you will be asked to complete the authorisation process by paying your annual registration fee, completing the necessary Working With Children Check, and providing details of you insurance coverage. When all of this has been completed, you will receive your Certificate of Authorisation. Congratulations - you are now an Authorised Performer.
- Authorisation of programs remains valid for 2 years, as long as performers maintain their annual registration (yearly payment).
- Reauthorisation of programs is made at the end of the 2 year period.
