Dragons, dinosaurs, jelly fish and giant eggs some of the surprising
and fascinating creatures that you might expect to find at the Inspirasi
Indonesian Arts Festival Finale at the Byron Peace Pole Park on Sunday
17 July.

Preparations for the grand finale performance of the Inspirasi Festival
are in full swing down at Byron Arts Factory. Indonesias foremost
multimedia and international art celebrity Heri Dono is presenting a
magical, mysterious performance of giant puppets, projections and
installations which will tell a post-tsunami sea-side tale from
Indonesian mythology to delight children and adults of all ages. Heri
Dono is Indonesias most acclaimed contemporary artist who constantly
travels the world undertaking creative projects and exhibitions in
around 10 countries every year including Japan, Norway, Germany,
Switzerland, Dubai, Hong Kong, US, France, Canada, Italy, Switzerland
among others. Heri is now in Australia at the invitation of the
Australia Indonesia Art Alliance with the assistance of the Australia
Indonesia Institute, participating as a major international speaker at
the FEHVA Festival and now creating a totally new creative work
involving contemporary shadow puppets, multimedia images, song, dance
and movement for Inspirasi Festival.

A wonderful team of local and visiting artists have been working
non-stop to collaborate with Heri in the creation of a fantastic array
of beautiful art pieces for the performance art spectacular. Kathy
McCormick from Lismore Lantern Festival has offered to bring over the
giant dragon and serpent from the Lantern Festival storehouse of
fantastic creations, Byron Tik, artist and manager of the Arts Factory
Gallery has provided space, video art and support of all kinds for the
artists working together. Local sculptor John Lewis is creating his own
jelly fish art pieces from recycled materials while internationally
recognised installation artist Ginny Jones has invited Indonesian
installation artist Firman Djamil from Sulawesi to collaborate on her
environmental art in the production of giant seed pods to install at the
Festival site.

The performance will be a moving landscape of sounds and images narrated
by the amazing voice of Melbourne vocalist Noemi Liba singing the story
joined by local musicians and gamelan orchestra.

Festival highlights include the presentation of the Balinese Kecak Dance
at the Buddha Bar on Saturday 16 at 8pm to accompany the Festival
Dinner, a community project funded by Regional Arts NSW which has
brought the Gold Coast Balinese community and local Indonesian and
Australian communities closer together by working for the last 10 weeks
to create the first Kecak performance ever to be staged in Byron Shire.
This group will also lead a beautiful Balinese procession with the
stunning Barong and Rangda dancers in glittering costumes, gong music,
Balinese umbrellas, flags and prayers starting from the Peace Pole at
11.30am on Sunday 17- so join in!

Another highlight of the Festival will be the Public Forum Neighbours:
Who Needs Them to be held at the Buddha Bar on Saturday 16 July at 2pm.
In light of recent events in Bali, the Schappelle Corby hysteria, the
Bali bombing and other major issues that have rocked our neighbourhood,
the Australia Indonesia Arts Alliance has chosen to speak out against
the media manipulation of public opinion that has occurred in recent
days. The Inspirasi Festival itself celebrates 50,000 Years of Peace
as the true reality of the Australia Indonesia relationship. Come along
and have your say and hear what others feel about this most important
relationship.

The Festival Finale Weekend will present free performances of music,
dance and arts of all kinds from 12 - late Saturday 16 July at the
Buddha Bar and on Sunday 17 July at Byron Peace Pole from 12-5pm. For
