Please find below info on the first in the series of Indonesian
festivals this month, 13 August, Addison Road Community Centre,

Indonesian festival 

 

The Indonesian Food and Cultural Festival celebration of Indonesia's
60th anniversary of independence is also an opportunity for Australians
to taste and see the best of its culture. 

Run by the Indonesian Community Council of NSW it is on Saturday August

13 at the Addison Road Community Centre, Marrickville from early morning
until 11pm.

Sixteen food stalls ranging from Padang food to the traditional satays
and martabak (big pancakes filled with meat, vegetables or chocolate)
will give festivals goers a wide choice. 

The cultural aspect will be led by the Rhythm Hunting ('music of heaven
and earth'- Sun Herald) and the Acehenese body percussion group, Suara
Indonesia Dancers. 

The Suara Dancers who have performed at the Opera House are the leading
Indonesian dance group in Sydney and during the fund raising for Aceh
busked at Circular Quay and did 15 appearances and concerts in a month
to raise nearly $50,000.

For the children, kid Olympics, and bands and DJs from 9pm for a dance
party.

Also to be performed the Poco-Poco, Indonesia's version of the line
dance with hundreds getting up to perform in the community centre.

Entrance is $3.00, children under 12 for free but each ticket goes into
a raffle for a trip to Indonesia supplied by Garuda Indonesia
