Dear Asia Ednetters

Thought I would also draw your attention to a very significant milestone
-- we now have agreement from all Ministers of Education to the National
Statement for Engaging Young Australians with Asia. The Statement
identifies the broad knowledge, understandings, values and skills
required to engage with Asia in the context of existing policies and
practices in teaching and learning. Input and support has been received
from all education stakeholders, parents, principals, education systems,
teacher educators and teacher professional associations.

A copy of the Statement can be downloaded from the AEF website front
page - http://www.asiaeducation.edu.au

I also wanted to draw your attention to a couple of articles in the
Sydney Morning Herald which refer to the Statement and its importance
given recent events in Sydney:

December 14, 2005 - What must our neighbours think?

and

December 15, 2005 - Pact makes Asian studies a priority for all schools

Louise Williams

We will have more news early next year about programs and resources we
are developing to support the implementation of the Statement. We would
be keen to hear of your needs and views through Asia EdNet.

Seasons greetings to all our subscribers of Asia EdNet and the very
best wishes for 2006.

Cheers

The team at the AEF
