Leading Japanese contemporary artist Yukinori Yanagi uses national
symbols to question the politics and ideology of contemporary Japan. 

Asia Short Course
Japanese art as text Wednesdays 17, 24, 31 May and 7 June 5.30-7.30pm
Japanese language teacher professional development
The strong link between language and art in Japanese culture creates a
wealth of departure points for the study of values, beliefs and
attitudes. Features curators talks, behind the scenes tours and resource
materials.

Symbols and Ceremonies 13 April - 28 May
Rich and varied examples of Indonesian textile traditions relating to
life cycle ceremonies, religious rituals and gift exchanges from Java,
Sumba, Bali and Sumatra.
K-6 Indonesia Teachers Day Thursday 11 May

Zen Mind, Zen Brush 15 June - 13 August
Japanese ink painting from the Gitter - Yelen Collection. Simple yet
profound, spontaneous yet controlled, the art of Zen Buddhism is
intended to communicate the vision of Zen masters and to reveal the
essence of Zen.

Translucent World 7 September - 5 November
Chinese jades from the Palace Museum, Bejing depicting nature such as
flora and fauna, mountains and streams as a reflection of human ideals.

Goddess: Divine Energy 13 October 2006 - 28 January 2007
This exhibition surveys the innumerable, imaginative expressions of the
divine female found in the art of India, Tibet and Nepal through 120
paintings and sculptures.
