The Green Turtle Foundation Inc. was established to generate interest and support for the Green Turtle Dreaming project. Its membership is drawn from teachers, scientists and community members committed to the conservation of this endangered species and the need to recognise indigenous relationships to these ancient reptiles. The Green Turtle Dreaming project aims to: * document Australian and Indonesian communities' little known and shared relationship with the Green Turtle in an innovative way. * develop grassroots connections between regions of Australia and Indonesia which have had a cultural relationship over thousands of years but which are rarely included in formal cultural exchange projects. * increase an awareness of the vulnerable status of turtles in the region * develop an arts project which makes use of infrastructure and connections between non-arts institutions such as national parks, schools, environmental non government organisations, zoos and marine parks. * create a significant work of art which will tour to major exhibition venues in Australia and Indonesia. * Encourage schools and communities to assist with the development of educational materials to be shared across the two regions. This project is supported by * Australia-Indonesia Arts and Community program, an initiative of Asialink and the Community Cultural Development Board of the Australia Council. * The Myer Foundation * The Global Classroom Project, an initiative of the Department of Education and Training * Artists in Schools Project 2002, ARTS VICTORIA * The Norman Wettenhall Foundation * CMagi Designs <mailto:cmagiau at yahoo.com.au> for developing the initial web site free of charge.
