indonesian_open update on postion of indonesian consultant

This is a follow up on an earlier email suggesting
that Indonesian teachers an others who have benefited
from having an Indonesian consultant, lobby this year.
In response to an inquiry about refilling this
position, David Jafffray, ( acting Head of languages)
has said that a decision regarding whether or not to
refill this position will be made later this year.
We need to be contacting David as frequently as
possible so that it can be seen that there is an
ongoing need for a consultant. His email address is :
david.jaffray at det.nsw.edu.au
Another suggestion is to ask your principal to write
to him outlining the case for the continued need for a
consultant. Apparently one letter from a principal is
worth ten emails from us!
Other options may be to contact your local Federation
representative, or local member of parliament to lobby
on your behalf.
Finally, it would be good if we could highlight the
plight of Indonesian teachers through a media story.
Any ideas? Does anyone have any good media contacts?
I would be interested to hear what other steps are
being taken by teachers to put pressure on the
Department. If anyone out there has information about
this, could you please contact me.
I am also concerned that the postion of Indonesian
teacher's assistant for 2007 may not proceed unless we
lobby for it. I had the opportunity to have Ayu
Kusumastuti work with me this semester and she has
done a wonderful job, not only in with the teaching
and learning of Indonesian in our school, but in
highlighting the continuing need for friendship and
understanding between Indonesia and Australia. She
also ran a fantastic workshop for teachers and
students on Bahasa Gaul, which is of special interest
to her. She will be in Sydney at Woolaware High next
semester and has offered to run another one in Sydney
if there is available support!!!! Yet another example
of the need to have a consultant to coordinate such
projects!!
Cheers,
Linda Keyte
