Promoting Indonesian Studies at UNSW

 

COME AND ENJOY A RARE AND SPECIAL PERFORMANCE BY 'PUNAKAWAN QUARTET' from Jakarta, led by the Indonesian great pianist Jaya Suprana

 

Organized by the Indonesian Studies at  New South Wales University

in cooperation with the Indonesian Consulate General in Sydney.

 

When: Tuesday 1 August, 2006; 6pm to 8pm

Where: The Clancy Auditorium, UNSW (entry via Gate 9, High Street, Kensington)

 Punakawan Quartet

The group is led by the one and only JAYA SUPRANA, the Indonesian great pianist. Using the names of the four punakawans of the Wayang, the group specializes in the 'musik-sufi Nusantara'

* Petruk: The legendary guitarist- four times winner of the national festival and the receiver of the South-East Asian Distinguished Award, Jubing Kristianto

* Bagong: The professional bass-guitarist, Heru Kusnadi

*Gareng: The supra-natural percussionist and the winner of the Yamaha Festival in East Java, Junaedi Musliman

*Semar: The 'invincible' pianist--'magically powerful', Jaya Suprana.
