indonesian_open FW: question about date of broadcast of langitku rumahkuR.Machali r.machali at unsw.edu.auWed Aug 9 18:55:35 EST 2006
Dear colleagues, (khususnya Yvonne) below is 'potongan' of information about 'Langitku Rumahku' from the website below: http://www.hamline.edu/apakabar/basisdata/1991/06/27/0003.html "Potongan' informasi below (please click on the above for fill info). Semoga berguna. Salam, Rochayah ********* _Langitku Rumahku_'s problems began on the night of Friday, 16 Nov, 1990 when, after its first day's screening in general cinemas, it was withdrawn in Jakarta. Slamet, who was in Paris at the time, described his reaction. "This really shocked me because, long before, I had personally approached PT Perfin who are responsible for distribution of films in Indonesia and PPFI, the film producers association," he said. "I did my best as an Indonesian. Based on their agreement, a special screening period was held at the Djakarta Theater and it attracted a lot of positive attention." "But the moment we entered the general cinemas, we encountered something which resembled intimidation. There was a press release from Perfin which accused us of not following the existing regulations. As if we are children who do not understand the rules !" "I have just one query: What is there behind all of this ? The answer is clear enough. Anything that changes too fast is bound to face resistance. And where does this resistance come from ?" "Instead of accusing, I try to recall all that we did. On a consistent basis, Ekapraya has questioned their policies which we consider to be monopolistic." "I am talking here about a certain private company in which there is a concentration of power from their being sole suppliers of films, cinema owners, and the formulators of distribution policy. Our problem is probably the consequence of our stance. Eros who was in charge on the scene knows more." Eros continued: "There is a law in this country. The Joint decree of three Ministers specifies two days as the minimum playing time for new Indonesian titles. But the monopoly issued another regulation, what they called The Joint Agreement, which is unbelievable !" "How can the Ministers Decree be overruled by The Joint Agreement which is signed only by the associations of producers, cinema-owners, and importers ? There is anarchy in the film world if such a thing can happen." Perfin's press release cited an attendance of just 4,132 over an 11 day period of the special shows as an example of the folly involved in unconventional distribution practices. A. Rahim Latif, a film distributor working closely with Ekapraya, dismissed these figures claiming instead that 20,000 people saw _Langitku Rumahku_ during the 15 days at the Djakarta Theater. He painted a picture of Indonesian cinema today: "The Minister declared that Indonesian films should be the hosts in their own land with the guests being imported films. But it is the other way around and worse ! Our films are prisoners in this country, shackled and thrown into a cell with no light". -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
