Teman-teman yang baik You may be interested in this Sydney event As the Monsoon season draws near, post-earthquake recovery in Indonesia is increasingly urgent. Indonesian Solidarity and Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA invite Australian artists to use their talents to make a real difference. ARTQUAKE: An art auction fundraiser at Eastside Arts, Paddington, 7 October 2006. On May 27 this year a high magnitude earthquake struck the city of Yogyakarta, situated on the densely populated Indonesian island of Java. As the earth shook people lost their lives, homes and livelihoods, with over 6 000 people killed, around 46 000 injured, and over 600 000 left homeless. Many are now living in makeshift tents, or shelters on the side of the road. An area rich with artisans, craftspeople and home industries, many in Yogyakarta have lost their place of work and/or the tools and machinery that they used to make a living. On June 17 another major earthquake occurred, this time under the seabed off the coast of West Java, causing a tsunami that struck the south coast of West Java. At least 660 people were killed and approximately 51 500 lost their homes. With the monsoon or rainy season fast approaching it is vital that the Australian community provide assistance to those affected. WALHI - The Indonesian Forum for Environment has been working in each of these areas helping survivors to rebuild their lives. Having spent over a year working on emergency relief and community empowerment in Aceh and North Sumatra after the 2004 tsunami, WALHI now have extensive experience and networks in post-disaster relief work. WALHI take a community-based approach to recovery work, with a focus on revitalising local community organisations for the rapid recovery of civil society in affected areas. They are the largest forum of non-government and community-based organisations in Indonesia and stand for social transformation, people's sovereignty, and sustainability of life and livelihoods. Indonesian Solidarity and Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA proudly present ARTQUAKE - an art exhibition/auction to raise money which will enable WALHI to continue their much needed work in each of these disaster-affected areas. We are inviting artists to donate work to be exhibited and auctioned at the Stone Gallery at Eastside Arts in Paddington on Saturday 7 October 2006. Artquake is an opportunity for Australian artists to directly support the people of Indonesia, and all donations are tax deductible. Ideally we would like to have all work at the gallery by 24 September. Please call or email to make delivery/pick up arrangements. "Artquake is about people connecting with people, across national boundaries in order to help the people rebuild their homes and livelihoods following the disasters in Indonesia, "says Jumaadi, an Indonesian artist residing in Australia. ARTQUAKE is supported by Global Gallery, Art Business, Gallery 44 and Gang Festival. Please contact Amity Lynch on 0413 114 758 or miss.malapetaka at gmail.com for further information or expressions of interest. Your generosity will be greatly appreciated. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
