2007 INDONESIAN ART & CULTURE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - open to Australians

 

22 MAY - 22 AUGUST 2007

 

To promote cooperation in education and culture and to enhance

understanding between Indonesia and member countries of the Southwest

Pacific Dialogue, ASEAN, Pacific Islands Forum, China, Japan, South
Korea,

India and South Africa, the Government of the Republic of Indonesia is

offering a scholarship to 1 or 2 candidates from each member country to

study Indonesian art and culture at the top art centres in Indonesia.

 

The scholarship covers the tuition fee (including extra-curricular

activities), economy class return ticket, accommodation (board &
lodging),

health insurance and a monthly allowance of Rp.1,500,000 (approx
US$165).

 

Terms and Conditions

1.    Candidates should preferably be between 18-35 years old with a

(minimum) high school diploma;

2.    Candidates should have a strong interest and talent in art (ie.

performing arts, drama, music). Art students or those with an academic

history in Indonesian culture are encouraged to apply.

3.    Candidates must complete an application form and submit it with
the

following:

-     3 (three) passport size photographs;

-     a photocopy of the passport with at least 2 years validity;

-     a photocopy of academic diploma;

-     a valid health certificate;

-     a letter declaring that the candidate will not work or be employed
for

financial gain during his/her stay in Indonesia;

-     a letter declaring the candidate's willingness to be subject to

Indonesian laws and regulations during his/her stay in Indonesia.

4.    The program will include training in Indonesian language. Basic
skills

in Bahasa Indonesia or English will be an advantage.

 

The Program

 

ORIENTATION:

includes Indonesian language training, introduction to Indonesian
history,

culture and foreign policy, visit to Taman Mini Indonesia Indah, museums

and other well-known tourist sites and outbound training.

 

INDONESIAN ART & CULTURAL TRAINING - June to August 2007 (one candidate

per country):

1.    Sundanese Culture held in Bandung. The program comprises angklung
and

arimba; wayang golek; selected Sundanese dances and pencak silat

(traditional martial arts).

2.    Javanese culture held in Yogyakarta and Solo. The program
comprises

selected Javanese dances, karawitan, batik painting and traditional

ceramics processing.

3.    Balinese culture held in Bali. The program comprises selected
Balinese

dancing, gamelan, balinese carving and paintings.

Applications must be submitted by 23 April 2007 and candidates will be

selected by the Department of Foreign Affairs in Jakarta at end of
April.

The program runs from 22 May until 22 August 2007.
