Asia EdNet Discussion Group
--------------------------------- Hi Everyone

Bettina Cooke, the Australia Education International Counsellor in Hanoi
forwarded some information on scholarships that may be useful. Please
refer to the website listed below for further information.

Australian Scholarships is a $1.4 billion Australian Government
initiative to promote sustainable development and excellence in
education in the Asia-Pacific region. 19,000 high achievers will receive
advanced education, research and professional development opportunities
over five years.

'Australian Scholarships' builds on these achievements. The program has
five very important aims:
1. To build enduring people-to-people links, particularly among
potential future leaders and institutions in Australia and within the
region, including an alumni program;
2.    To promote reform and improved governance;
3. To build capacity in areas of critical shared interest, such as
economic management, trade policy, regional integration and
cross-boundary challenges such as pandemics and clean energy;
4. To enhance mutual understanding, knowledge and innovation; and
5. To help address regional skills needs.

Australian Scholarships comprises:
* Australian Development Scholarships (ADS) administered by AusAID
* Australian Leadership Awards (ALA) administered by AusAID
* Endeavour Programme administered by DEST

Scholars will be selected from highly competitive pools on the basis of
demonstrated leadership qualities, academic achievement and/or the
potential for them to have development impact.

There are a range of programmes within Australian Scholarships,
including scholarships, research fellowships, exchanges, professional
development, leadership courses and vocational training.

Awards are available for all fields of study. However study programs
that relate to the priority themes of shared regional interest -
international trade, pandemics, security and climate change (including
clean energy) - are encouraged.

Australian Scholarships offers opportunities for Australians to go
abroad as well as opportunities for international post-secondary
scholars, researchers and professionals to come to Australia.
