Subject: Tirta Sinar news and balinese gamelan recital Nov. 19

Dear Friend,

Sekaa Gong Tirta Sinar is out of hibernation, and we all say a warm
hello, though it's long overdue.

Earlier this year we had to vacate Old Darlington School at Sydney Uni,
due to renovations, and put the Australian Museum's gong kebyar gamelan
into storage. But in fact we haven't been idle; we've been practising
and rehearsing at Sydney Conservatorium on its beautiful semaradana set,
and our upcoming show there, three weeks away, is one of the reasons we
write. We hope you can join us, and bring your friends.

If you've ever fallen under the spell of gamelan in Bali

or here in Sydney

and the shimmering sound of all that bronze

has led you to wonder...

how is this extraordinary music put together?

what makes it pulsate the way it does?

how do they play so quickly?

and who leads, anyway?

then join us for an evening of musical and cultural insights in...

Meanwhile, there's two more bits of news to cover, as follows.

1. Sekaa Gong Tirta Sinar has a new web address. You'll find us at
http://www.tirtasinar.org and we've made quite a few updates so please
do have a look.

2. As above, our long-standing home, ODS at Sydney Uni. has been under
renovations since June this year. You would have received an email in
early May, at the height of our uncertainty about the need for new digs.
Thankyou for your concern, especially if you sent us some suggestions
about who to approach for new space. To a certain extent, we are still
in limbo, although it does look more likely that Sydney Uni can have
us--and the Australian Museum's instruments--back, perhaps early autumn
2008. We're seeking news on that front soon, and will update you when we
can.

Once again, we'd love your company and your support on November 19.
We'll play instrumentals and dance pieces, and Gary will talk through
two pieces in particular to share the essence of what makes gamelan
'tock'.

Warm regards,

Alexandra
