[Indonesian_open] FW: AIYEP home placementsWittman, Leonie Leonie.Wittman at det.nsw.edu.auFri Aug 15 11:43:58 EST 2008
Teman-teman yang baik A great opportunity for teachers and students in Sydney to host AIYEP Australia Indonesia Youth Exchange Program participants. See message below from Sue Piper. It may be too late for year 12 students to host (as it clashes with the HSC), but a great chance for other students. Leonie Wittman ________________________________ From: AIYEP [mailto:sue.aiyep at tcn.com.au] Sent: Friday, 15 August 2008 11:25 AM To: Wittman, Leonie Subject: AIYEP home placements Dear Leonie I would REALLY appreciate your help with this one to get the word out and so that teachers can: 1. encourage students to get involved by offering a 3 wk homestay - what better way to improve your Indonesian? If you can't visit Indonesia with your school then have an Indonesian student stay with you! 2. have the Indonesian students perform a 60 minute dance and music performance in their school assembly hall on Monday 19, or 26 Oct or 3 November 3. have an Indonesian student assistant for 3 wks (only 1 or 2 of these) You know what a warm reception Indonesia gives to Australian visitors and we would like to ensure the Indonesian students who come to Sydney experience an including welcoming time, starting off with good home placements. I need to confirm 18 placements in 4 weeks time and only have 4 confirmed offers right now. Are you interested in providing a homestay or work placement for YOUNG INDONESIAN STUDENT LEADERS ? A group of 18 university students - potential future leaders of Indonesia - will visit Sydney in October to experience Australia's culture and way of life. Sponsored by the Australia-Indonesia Institute in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Australia-Indonesia Youth Exchange Program (AIYEP) is run in conjunction with the Indonesian Government's Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sport. The students will spend three weeks in homestay and work placements in Sydney over three weeks Saturday 18 October to Sunday 9 November. Nine women and men, aged 21 to 25, have been selected from across Indonesia. They have bright futures in the arts and media, industry, business, agriculture, law and government, education, health, the environment, tourism, and social and community development. Their English is good and they will undergo a thorough orientation program on arrival in Sydney. "I'm so pleased we were part of the program, it was a wonderful experience for us and our whole extended family. We found it well organised and we appreciated the excellent flow of communication." Host families will gain an insight into Indonesian culture, customs and attitudes while helping to promote the bilateral relationship on a personal level. Each family receives a weekly subsidy of $150, additional to the Indonesian participants having a basic living allowance. The Indonesians will undertake work placements from Tuesday to Friday for these three weeks. They'll also give a highly entertaining and interactive, weekly cultural performance to schools, universities and interested community bodies during their time in Sydney. At the end of their stay the group will spend three weeks in a country centre, then return to Sydney to join their Australian counterpart group for a similar two-month stay in the Indonesian province of East Java.
