Dr Novi Djenar, from the Department of Indonesian Studies, will give a lecture on ³From speech to writing: Colloquialism in the language of Indonesian youth fiction.² Dr Djenar joined the University of Sydney this year, after teaching at La Trobe University for 19 years. Her research focuses on the interface between spoken and written discourse. She is presently working on a linguistic description of the language of Indonesian youth fiction, examining the transposition of colloquial Indonesian into a written variety.
