Welcome to the PDHPE rap

Athens Olympic Games

Rap point 2

Term 3, Week 6: week beginning 23 August 2004

Why do people enjoy playing games and sports? What are the benefits for us all when participating in games and sports?

Task for Rap point 2

There are over 750 athletes, representing over 30 sports, with New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS) scholarships. These athletes are the best at what they do. Many are the best in Australia and are representing Australia in Athens .

As part of this rap, you have the opportunity to interact with several athletes representing Australia at the Olympic Games.

In small groups, develop a profile for each athlete (listed in the Resources section). You may need to gather information from a number of sources, for example:

The information gathering proforma may assist you with this task.

You may also wish to make up a calendar of events and highlight when these athletes will be competing.

Develop questions that you would like to ask each athlete to find out more information about them. For example, how did they start off in sport? why did they choose that particular sport? why do they like competing? and what skills are important in their sport? You may also look at what sports and activities they will be involved in once their competitive careers are over. Send a message to all rappers sharing a couple of questions you would like to ask each athlete. A selection of these will be answered for you in the coming weeks.
